                      Vitamin D and COVID-19

A May 2020 study reported patients with severe vitamin D deficiency are twice as likely to experience severe complications, including death from COVID 19

As I published in 2010 "Setright R, Is there a vitamin D epidemic in Australia, and if so. Is this a major contributing factor to disease, The Setright Letter. 2010 April 05, 12,1-10 later presented to ACRRM Science Forum Perth

Vitamin D has a vital role in immune modulation.

Now researchers analyzed patient data from 10 countries. The team found a correlation between low vitamin D levels and hyperactive immune systems. Vitamin D strengths innate immunity and prevents overactive immune responses. The finding could explain several mysteries, including why children are unlikely to die from COVID-19

Vitamin D has been shown to protect against acute respiratory infections, and older adults, the group most deficient in vitamin D, are also the ones most seriously affected by COVID-19.

A previous study also found that 75% of people in institutions, such as hospitals and care homes, were severely deficient in vitamin D
